What you always wanted to know about punching

In their statement, the judges pointed out that the TRUMPF punching film was “a real industry film…which took a rather dry subject, as one might suspect, and turn it into a witty and fresh story”. The judges felt that punching was even “made into an art form”, and that the film demonstrated “perfect timing and rhythm”.

“Zukunftsmusik” came about to mark the 50th anniversary of TRUMPF’s plant in Hettingen, Germany, in 2005, which manufactures punching machines. The film provides an exceptional look into the established process of sheet metal processing. Slow motion was used – showing the punching process at up to 3,000 frames per second – thereby providing even the experts with new insights.

First prize in the “Films from Industry” category was awarded to the production of “From the Middle of Nowhere to the Heart of Europe”, produced for the German-Polish sister cities of Görlitz and Zgorzelec for their 2010 European Capital of Culture application. Porsche AG’s entry, “Na denn” [Well then] took third place.

This year’s competition received a record 165 entries – 60 percent more than the year before. Short films, magazine articles, documentations and image films competed for one of the oldest existing film awards in Germany. In the end, the judges selected eight films for the 2006 German Industrial Film Award. Over 600 people attended the awards ceremony.
