| Ditzingen, September 17, 2007 – For the first time ever, a German Federal President has opened the world’s biggest machine tool fair EMO in Hanover. In his opening speech yesterday, Horst Koehler emphasized the importance of machine tool manufacturing for the German economy – as a job creator as well as a booster of development and innovation. Koehler added that – in this context – the education of young people also possessed immense importance. Against the background of an increasing lack in skilled employees, the president called on the industry to inspire children and youngsters for technology from an early point. In this regard, he named the “Wissensfabrik” an exemplary initiative – in which the TRUMPF Group has participated from the very beginning.
The first stop on the president’s subsequent tour led him to the booth of TRUMPF. The Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the TRUMPF Group, Prof Berthold Leibinger, explained to the president the advantages of modern sheet metal processing with the help of a machine, which can punch as well as laser cut. Accompanied by the leader of the federal German state of Lower Saxony, Christian Wulff, the president experienced that clever sheet metal constructions and the application of lasers for cutting and welding can save money, weight, and time. TRUMPF customers of different branches – ranging from medical technology to bike and automobile manufacturers – recently have supplemented or even completely substituted chipping manufacturing methods by sheet metal processing. The visitors were able to see for themselves at the booth that this is a real success story.
Besides Federal President Koehler, representatives of the German University in Cairo (GUC) and the Egyptian media also visited the TRUMPF booth and were welcomed by Prof Leibinger as well. Since 2005, TRUMPF has been a partner of the GUC, and in 2006, a show room with five of TRUMPF’s latest machines was opened. TRUMPF supports the GUC with the development of a modern training center for sheet metal processing and application consulting. In return, the GUC offers operating and programming courses for local TRUMPF customers and conducts machine demonstrations for Egypt and the adjacent region (Saudi-Arabia, United Arab Emirates).
The TRUMPF crew looks back on a successful first day at the EMO hoping to welcome many more visitors at the fair and to be able to convince them of the TRUMPF motto: “Thinking sheet metal”.
