Tapping tools do exactly what their name suggests: they produce threads in pre-drilled or punched holes in mild steel, stainless steel or aluminum. In comparison to thread cutting, this procedure does not generate metal chips since the material is not cut but is rather 'displaced'. A clean sweep!

TRUMPF's tapping technology also offers other advantages:
The surface is strengthened during forming and can thus support even greater loads later on.
The dimensions of the threads are also uniform.
Formed threads are generally not too big, because oversizing of the first threads is avoided.
In soft materials, considerably higher RPM speeds are possible than in tapping.

The threads are formed in one single setup. Additional work cycles are thus not necessary.
The revolution speed of the forming tool can be programmed, allowing the forming process to be controlled. On the one hand, this ensures higher quality threads; on the other hand, the forming tool is also never subject to excessive strain.
The forming tool is lubricated directly. The lubricant container is sized for at least 20,000 threads.
The tapping tool can be loaded into the single station punching head just as easily as other tools.
