And Connolly says: "We quickly learned what a laser can do with sheet metal. When we combined that with the many sheet metal forming technologies that DGT possessed, we soon realized that a 5-axis, three-dimensional laser machine would greatly enhance our manufacturing capabilities."
That realization led DGT to buy the TRUMPF TLC 105 in 1992. It also proved to be the catalyst for DGT's engineering community to convert manufacturing processes to multi-axis, three-dimensional lasers as the company's principal machines for trimming.
Today, DGT owns seven TRUMPF units, including four 5-axis, 3-D machines. "We also use them for 3-D welding and laser cladding," adds Connolly. "Their versatility enables us to be more competitive and offer added value and savings to our customers."
DGT's trust in TRUMPF continues unabated. Just last year, DGT purchased the TLC 1005, a multi-axis machine that provides greater work envelope capability and what Connolly calls "the latest and greatest" in TRUMPF technology.
For Gary Connolly, DGT's long-term relationship with TRUMPF can be summed up in one sentence: "In this market, we need machines that perform."
That's an endorsement we proudly accept.
