Just-in-time service and and competitive short-run production are the mainstays of Marstrand Industries, Inc. Marstrand is a custom fabrication powerhouse with corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It primarily services the construction and safety cabinet markets, along with other OEM niche accounts.

TRUMPF equipment dominates the laser cutting and punching centers at Marstrand. The company boasts two TRUMPF lasers and two TRUMATIC 200 R punching centers, as well as forming capabilities from 60 through 400 tons. The CNC laser-cutting center and CNC sheet metal processing center provide fast setup time for high productivity, prototype design, short runs, and "rush" orders.

The company's rapid expansion into new markets confirms Jack Marshall's original decision to purchase his first 2600-watt laser cutting equipment in 1993. "It was an excellent business decision," he says.

Today, the company has positioned itself in the "high-tech" sector of the metal fabrication market. Among Marstrand's major customers are manufacturers of medical breathing apparatus, vending machines, building components, material handling systems, and water treatment equipment.

On one of its laser cutting centers, Marstrand has installed a TRUMPF LiftMaster, which allows the automatic pallet-changers on the laser machine to be loaded with worksheets, and cut nests to be off-loaded.

"The machine that has the LiftMaster runs 24 hours a day," says Marshall. "Now, we're looking at the TRUMPF SheetMaster for our punching center, as well as possibly another laser with automated features."

"TRUMPF equipment has certainly been good for us," says Marshall. "You just have to look at our business over the past three years."
