Ultrashort pulse lasers
A new generation of lasers, the so-called ultrashort pulse lasers, has been on the market for about ten years. Nobel prize winner Gérard Mourou explains what great feats these lasers could accomplish in the future.

Gérard Mourou is a French physicist. His research focuses on laser physics and nonlinear optics. In 2018 Mourou received the Nobel prize for physics together with Arthur Ashkin and Donna Strickland. Ultrashort pulse lasers are based on the principles described by him and his research colleagues, and he believes they can do great things. In his interview, he explains how they can be used to generate radiation that could not only improve cures for cancer in the future, but also that could help dispose of nuclear waste.
