The green wavelength is absorbed very well in copper: at room temperature the absorption is eight times greater than that of infrared. As a result, using the TruDisk with green wavelength, it is possible to weld copper in a highly stable and practically spatter-free process. This meets the toughest quality requirements for both the weld seam and the welded component itself.
Green laser light for welding copper
Using a green wavelength, copper and other highly reflective materials can be welded not just efficiently, but also with high quality and great productivity, regardless of the material surface quality. Spatter formation is minimised as much as possible. At the same time, you benefit from maximum reproducibility. Whether for point or linear welding, the green laser light turns heat conduction welding and deep penetration welding with a constant welding depth into reliable processes. At TRUMPF you'll also benefit from a complete package based on our proven TruDisk disk laser technology, several laser light cable outputs, processing optics and an intelligent sensor system.
Green lasers are the foundation of high-quality copper welding with minimal spatter.
Green laser light always delivers outstanding results, no matter whether you're working with a polished, oxidised or ground surface.
Even with green laser light, you can choose between pulsed and continuous wave lasers, both of which can be tailored to your specific requirements.
Take advantage of stable heat conduction welding and deep penetration welding with constant welding depth.
Durability and robustness are the core features of our IR TruDisk lasers. You can depend on TruDisk lasers with green wavelength 100%.
Thanks to the low heat input in the copper, you benefit from minimal distortion of the components and avoid the surrounding plastic components from deforming.
Copper welding - stable and practically spatter-free
Green wavelength TruDisk lasers are perfect for high-productivity scanner applications. Thanks to the high beam quality of the lasers, scanners can also be used with extended working distances and large scanning fields. TRUMPF can offer you the complete package consisting of laser, laser light cable, focusing optics and sensor systems - all compatible with the green wavelength.
Heat conduction welding of copper foil with the TruDisk 2021
The TruDisk 2021 is the ideal tool for the reliable heat conduction welding of copper foil and thin copper sheets with a high feed rate. The picture depicts the top bead profile and the transverse cross-section of the seam, welded at a feed rate of 10 m/min.
Direct Copper Bonds (DCB)
The TruDisk lasers with green wavelength can also weld thin materials with no impact on the base. For example, copper tracks can be contacted onto substrates using ribbons or wires, without damaging the underlying ceramic.
Whatever the surface quality, the TruDisk with green wavelength welds copper seams with consistent quality thanks to the more stable process at a wavelength of 515 nm, which ensures that your production is highly robust. As a result, most of the time-consuming preparations involved in the standardised preparation of the surface finish, using either sandblasting, tin plating or similar methods, are no longer necessary.
Laser-welded electrical contacts
With the TruDisk Pulse, you can reliably weld sensitive electronic components by yourself. With the green wavelength, you can reduce spatter by over 95% in comparison to infrared light. This means that you effectively avoid short circuits and the resulting faulty components.

TruControl is the control software for your TRUMPF solid-state laser – for quick and simple operation. You can program pulse shapes individually to match your application. The laser power is controlled in real time to ensure maximum reproducibility of your process results. In order to retrace important quality data of your produced parts even years later, the optional DataStore software module records all data relevant to quality.
If external control systems are present, TruControl will communicate with them via all standard interfaces. Inputs are made via the touchscreen of the operating panel or via a panel PC. You can integrate your laser into the network via Ethernet and connect multiple PCs.
Instead of manual control, the power of the TruDisk with green wavelength can be controlled in real time. The active laser power control stabilises the laser power to deviations of +/- 1% and thereby keeps the process constant, regardless of ambient influences. You therefore benefit from the greatest power stability on the market – throughout the entire service life of your laser.
Interfaces are key for the integration of a TruDisk laser in your machine or production line. The solid-state lasers from TRUMPF offer interfaces to all common fieldbus systems. Also available: real-time interface, parallel digital I/O, interface for process sensor systems, OPC UA software interface, analogue input board, interface for intelligent TRUMPF optics.
In the event of a fault, TRUMPF service experts will remotely access your laser via a secure remote connection. In many cases the fault can be remedied directly in this way, or the configuration of the laser can be modified in a way that permits you to continue manufacturing until the spare part arrives. This enables maximum availability for you.
Processing optics and optical laser cables can be cooled easily and conveniently using the laser cooling water. Separate cooling is therefore not necessary.
Intelligent optics can be synchronised with your laser via a dedicated interface. This will allow you, for example, to use the PFO scanner optics optimally for your purposes. You can program the processing optics easily using the laser control system. You do not need any additional PCs or control systems.
With the laser network, you can connect one or more lasers with up to two work stations in each case. In the process, your laser either splits its power to multiple stations, or it supplies them by taking turns with full power. This will enable you to combine different applications such as welding or cutting with one another.
There are many different options for the beam guidance that will enable you to plan flexibly with your laser. The plug & play optical laser cables can be easily connected to different work stations. Here, you choose the number of fibre outlets up to a total of two. The laser power can be flexibly divided across the outlets. This allows multiple work stations to operate simultaneously with split laser power or one after the other with full laser power.
The WeldAssist database provides you with welding parameters for various materials and focal diameters. This simplifies the set up when laser applications are changed on a regular basis.
TRUMPF VisionLine image processing detects features on the components and ensures that welding is always performed in the correct location.
TRUMPF offers you all the components you need for beam guidance from the laser to the workpiece. This also applies for various focusing optics which have proven themselves to be precise and reliable over many years of industrial use. The optics can be easily integrated – both in stand-alone processing stations as well as in complete production lines. The modular structure enables the optics to be continually adapted to the laser types as well as the different processing situations.
Whether you've opted for the continuous wave or pulsed version for your green wavelength laser welding, you'll achieve top quality results with the robust focussing optics from TRUMPF.
