Process Monitoring focusses on the LMF process. The powder bed is monitored during the exposure process, which enables you to have complete control over the component quality, layer-by-layer. Production is also more efficient, as errors are detected quickly. The main component of Process Monitoring is the Powder Bed Monitoring function. You can automatically monitor the powder bed via an integrated camera in the TruPrint machine and via automatic image processing. As a result, you can keep sight of the state of the component at all times and can analyse the quality parameters layer-by-layer.

How does Powder Bed Monitoring work?
Our TruPrint machines are equipped with a high-resolution camera system, so that every powder layer can be monitored in detail. Automatic evaluation is possible in conjunction with the image processing, whereby the integrated dark field illumination also supports the image processing. As the user, you decide the limit values at which notifications or error messages should appear. As the quality parameters are assigned per layer, locating malfunctions is fast and accurate, which means that you can intervene in the current build job at an early stage.
In addition to the powder coating, the Powder Bed Monitoring function also records the state of the coating and identifies protruding parts in the powder bed. The process is optimal for evaluating the condition of the components during the actual LMF process and for identifying potential developments at an early stage. After the LMF process, a complete analysis of the individual layers can be performed via the image selection and, among other things, be compared with CAD data.
Preview: Melt Pool Monitoring – monitoring the weld pool
In addition to Powder Bed Monitoring, in future, the TruPrint 5000 machine will come with Melt Pool Monitoring, so that you can supervise the TruPrint machine's LMF process even more efficiently, and evaluate the quality of the components in the most optimum way. Melt Pool Monitoring uses sensors to monitor the weld pool of the laser metal fusion process. Benefit from a detailed quality check and documentation, layer-by-layer. In this way, you can detect any process deviations at an early stage – even in series production – and visualise the critical areas of a component, if necessary. These key figures can be compared automatically with the referenced build job, in order to monitor the stability of the process. Furthermore, when using several lasers at once, you can oversee all of the weld pools in parallel.
