The Smart Factory is aimed at all sheet metal processors, ranging from small and medium-sized contract manufacturers just starting out with digital networking through to customers with fully automated production.
TRUMPF Smart Factory Chicago
Until now, many people have believed that fully networked production is only possible in theory. We present proof to the contrary and demonstrate in Chicago how it actually works in practice. People, machines, automation and software already perfectly interact together in the new TRUMPF technology centre. In the Smart Factory, sheet metal workers experience networked production solutions in a realistic environment.
Your benefits from digital and physical networking
Networking makes your production transparent. You then always know what is happening and can plan better. Indirect processes are automated. Production is faster and more flexible, and your processes become more manageable. A decisive advantage, especially for smaller lot sizes.
"In Chicago we can present our vision of networked production to our customers."
The processes in our Smart Factory from different perspectives
The Smart Factory intelligently interlinks the entire "sheet metal process chain" – from the commissioning of a sheet metal component, to the design and manufacture, right up to delivery.
The Chicago site is ideally suited to the Smart Factory. Around 40 per cent of the sheet metal processing industry in the USA is located in the states directly surrounding it.
An interlinked sheet metal processing system with a high storage bay is the heart of the 55-metre-long production hall and provides the machine tools connected to it with material.
Besides COR-TEN steel and glass, Douglas fir timber was used in the office building structure of the networked factory.
The architects Barkow Leibinger from Berlin are responsible for the design of the building.
The production line is set up so that all actual production processes can be carried out.
With the new site, the TRUMPF Group is expanding its US presence in a strategically important region.
The exterior of the building with its rough-looking panelling made from deep rust-red COR-TEN steel makes clear both the industrial context and its representative function.
To begin with, around 30 employees work in an open and modern work environment at the TRUMPF Chicago site.
The skywalk is part of the cantilevered ceiling structure made from steel, which was produced by a TRUMPF customer in Atlanta.
