The Smart Factory is aimed at all sheet metal processors, ranging from small and medium-sized contract manufacturers just starting out with digital networking through to customers with fully automated production.
TRUMPF Smart Factory Chicago
Has complete networking only been possible until now in theory? In Chicago we are demonstrating how a fully networked production system works in practice. People, machines, automation and software are already working perfectly together in the new TRUMPF technology center. In the Smart Factory, sheet metal processors can experience networked production solutions in a realistic environment.
Your gain thanks to digital and physical networking
Networking makes your production transparent. You then always know what is happening and can plan better. Indirect processes are automated. Production is faster and more flexible, and your processes become more manageable. A decisive advantage, especially for smaller lot sizes.

No matter where you are – with our intelligent networking solutions, you are always in control of your Smart Factory.
"In Chicago we can present our vision of networked production to our customers."
The processes in our Smart Factory from different perspectives
The Smart Factory intelligently interlinks the entire "sheet metal process chain" – from the commissioning of a sheet metal component, to the design and manufacture, right up to delivery.
The Chicago location is a perfect fit for the Smart Factory. About 40 percent of the sheet metal working industry in the USA is located in the directly adjacent states.
A 55-meter-long production hall houses an interlinked sheet metal processing facility with a high storage bay as the heart, which supplies the machine tools connected to it with material.
Besides corten steel and glass, Douglas fir wood was used for the office building of the networked factory.
Barkow Leibinger Architekten from Berlin was responsible for the design of the building.
The production line is set up in such a way that complete real production processes can be carried out.
With this new site, the TRUMPF Group is expanding its US presence in a strategically important region.
The exterior of the building with its raw-looking cladding made of deep red corten steel underscores both the industrial context and its representative function.
Around 30 employees are initially working in an open, modern working environment at TRUMPF's Chicago site.
