TRUMPF sets up consultancy for smart factory planning and production optimization

High raw material and energy costs increase need for systematic, ongoing optimization of in-house processes // Thomas Rupp, managing director of TRUMPF Smart Factory Consulting: “Our consulting services provide a unique combination of practical, hands-on expertise and an in-depth understanding of processes and technologies in the sheet-metal fabrication industry.”

Ditzingen / Hannover, October 17, 2022 – High-tech company TRUMPF will be presenting its new consultancy business at the EuroBLECH trade fair. TRUMPF Smart Factory Consulting was founded in September 2022 with the mission of helping sheet-metal fabricators to optimize their workflows and plan their factories and manufacturing operations. The new company, which is run entirely separately from TRUMPF’s machinery sales business, focuses on supporting customers with their production processes. “With customers facing increasing pressure from high raw material and energy costs and ever-more-acute shortages of skilled labor, it’s more important than ever to find ways of processing sheet metal efficiently with minimal material wastage. As a leading supplier and user of connected manufacturing solutions, TRUMPF has built up comprehensive expertise in material and information flows on the shop floor and at the job scheduling stage. Our decades of experience in factory, machinery and capacity planning and in production control provide firm foundations for our independent consulting service. Customers will benefit from our unique combination of practical, hands-on expertise and an in-depth understanding of processes and technologies in the sheet-metal fabrication industry,” says Thomas Rupp, managing director of TRUMPF Smart Factory Consulting, which employs some 20 people at its premises in Ditzingen.

The solution to cost pressures and the shortage of skilled workers
This new consulting service is a great choice for companies that need support in expanding their production or building a new factory. But it is also expressly aimed at companies with established production operations that are looking for assistance in coping with today’s challenging market environment. “As well as giving customers solid, specific advice on how to optimize their factory, we also help them put those suggestions into practice – and that's what sets us apart from other consultants. It’s often possible to achieve huge leaps in productivity with relatively simple measures. Our input helps sheet-metal fabricators improve their profitability and create a digitally connected manufacturing environment that is fit for the future. Part of our job is to support customers with the introduction of TRUMPF’s Oseon software for production control, which ensures perfect coordination between their processes and software components,” says Rupp. TRUMPF Smart Factory Consulting services are available worldwide. Detailed information can be obtained from the TRUMPF booth in Hall 11 at EuroBLECH.

Thomas Rupp, a 47-year-old physicist, joined TRUMPF 16 years ago. Before being appointed as the managing director of Smart Factory Consulting GmbH, he was head of the Research and Development (R&D) department, where he was responsible for developing automation and intralogistics solutions for the entire sheet-metal process chain. Rupp also has many years of experience in product management and in developing customer-specific turnkey solutions. His background makes him the ideal candidate to provide customers with tailor-made advice on the technical and commercial aspects of optimizing and enhancing their manufacturing operations.
