Minister President Winfried Kretschmann visits quantum technology start-up Q.ANT

Stuttgart, April 3, 2023 - Today, Baden-Württemberg's Minister President Winfried Kretschmann, accompanied by Michael Kellner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, visited the startup Q.ANT in Stuttgart. The wholly owned subsidiary of TRUMPF develops quantum computer chips and is a leader in the field of quantum sensor technology. Peter Leibinger, Chief Technology Officer of TRUMPF, and Michael Förtsch, CEO of Q.ANT, provided insights into the production of the first industrially ready quantum sensor and the development of quantum computer chips, among other things.

"Quantum technology is one of the key technologies of the future. It offers enormous potential and can disruptively change markets from the ground up. We want our state to be at the forefront of value creation with quantum solutions. Companies and start-ups from Baden-Württemberg should also play an important role in the global market for quantum solutions," said Minister President Winfried Kretschmann. "Especially start-ups like Q.ANT with their flexible structures are an important part of the quantum revolution. Already today, research institutions, companies and start-ups from Baden-Württemberg are successful in the quantum initiatives of the EU and the German government. We also want to bundle this strength more visibly internationally in order to create real innovations together."

Michael Kellner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection and Federal Government Commissioner for SMEs, added: "With Q.ANT, we are visiting a young and innovative company from Stuttgart today that is working on future topics such as quantum sensors and hardware components for future quantum computers. We wish the company continued great success, because these developments are good for the region and for Germany as a technology location."

Minister President Kretschmann and State Secretary Kellner also got an idea of the start-up's cooperation projects with universities and large companies from Baden-Württemberg. Minister President and State Secretary exchanged views with Peter Leibinger, CTO of TRUMPF, and Michael Förtsch, CEO of Q.ANT, on the economic prospects of Baden-Württemberg as an industrial location in global competition in the field of quantum technology.

"With their innovative strength, start-ups like Q.ANT make a decisive contribution to the future viability of Baden-Württemberg, Germany and Europe. Quantum technologies for computer centers and sensors from Baden-Württemberg have high growth potential and are a great opportunity for the local industrial location," said Peter Leibinger, CTO of TRUMPF.

Q.ANT is one of the world's leading companies in the field of quantum technology and produces the first quantum sensor suitable for industrial use. The start-up is also developing quantum computer chips that will help mainframe computers perform better in the future.

"The high-tech hotbed of Baden-Württemberg owes its success to strong family-owned companies, innovative research institutes and inventive founders. As a leading provider of quantum technology, we want to do our part to ensure that the region plays an even more important role in the field of semiconductors in the coming years," said Michael Förtsch, CEO of Q.ANT.

Quantum sensors from Q.ANT allow liquids, gases and solids to be measured much more versatilely and quickly. In addition, the company has developed a process that allows quantum computer chips to be manufactured in a simplified manner and operated at room temperature.
