Exceptional beam quality in high-power fiber lasers, combined with our scanner optics, provide a large scan area, high processing quality, and easy access to welding 3D parts.

TRUMPF application, gearbox laser powertrain

Gearbox welding

TruFiber P lasers are ideal for deep-hole welding, as they have up to 6 kW of power and high beam quality using fibers with small core diameters. Modern gearboxes are required to be increasingly smaller and lightweight without sacrificing performance; parts are often made of different metals. In such scenarios, fiber laser technology can be used to deliver precise, high-strength weld seams for the economical production of performance parts.

TRUMPF copper welding hairpin

Welding of hairpins for electric motors

Users achieve uniform high-tensile joints with good conductivity. Intelligent sensor systems ensure precision seams and maximum quality when welding hairpins. This also applies to high-volume series production due to the high reproducibility of the welding process.

TRUMPF application, battery cell busbar welding

Welding in battery technology

Busbar welding is a battery-manufacturing process that joins individual cells together to form modules or packs. A busbar is a live rail. In busbar welding, lasers can be used to combine different materials such as Al/Al or Cu/Cu, as well as mixed combinations, such as Al/Cu,. Important factors here include reproducibility, minimal heat input and defined welding depths, all of which can be ensured with our TruFiber P fiber laser solutions.

TRUMPF medical technology laser welding endoscope

Precision welding for medical applications

Precision is nowhere more important as in medical technology. TruFiber P enables production of high-quality, reproducible weld seams without post-processing, for example to manufacture endoscopic instruments.

Component generation using laser metal fusion

Laser metal fusion (3D printing)

Laser metal fusion (LMF) is an additive manufacturing process in which a workpiece is gradually built up layer-by-layer using a laser to selectively melt the metal onto a powder bed. LMF offers the benefits of freedom of design as well as reduced materials and weight for products used in sectors such as dental, medical technology, aerospace, and automotive. The single mode lasers in the TruFiber P product family are the perfect tools for metallic 3D printing.

Laser metal deposition with the TruLaser Cell Series 7000

Customized surface processing and parts repair

Laser metal deposition (LMD) is an additive manufacturing method that produces high-quality coatings and covers with optimal properties for later application of the machined part. It is also possible to repair high-value components by building up damaged and worn surfaces. The laser provides a localized, precise heat source to melt the filling material (powder or wire) so that it bonds tightly to the part's surface. The stability and accuracy of the laser process minimizes the mechanical post-processing required to achieve the surface's net shape. The basics of a versatile LMD system are a TruFiber P multimode high-power laser coupled with a tuned focusing head and a special LMD nozzle.

TruControl

TruControl is the quick and easy-to-use control for TRUMPF solid-state lasers. It regulates the laser power in real time in order to deliver reproducible results. Additional modules are specially tailored to the requirements of the TruFiber. The CutAssist option automatically adapts the laser parameters to the path velocity of the guidance system. In order to ensure that parts are traceable, the DataStore module records all quality-related data.
If external controls are present, TruControl will communicate with them via standard interfaces. Inputs are made via the touchscreen of the operating panel or via a panel PC. You can integrate your laser into the network via Ethernet and connect multiple PCs.

Smart Teach app

With the PFO Smart Teach app, you can create laser programs for your programmable focusing optics (PFO) in the blink of an eye. Whether it's laser welding, laser cutting, or laser cleaning – you can teach conveniently directly on the component. For this purpose, the camera integrated into the PFO transmits live images to the app. Due to the PFO SmartTeach, you save valuable time (up to 50% depending on the component) when setting up compared to conventional teaching.

Laser power control

100% consistent process results – the integrated laser power control measures and regulates the power in real time, accurate to +/- 1%. This means you always obtain the same process results. The laser power is regulated independently of the ambient conditions. Due to its particularly robust design concept, the TruFiber withstands disturbing influences and external demands extremely well.

BrightLine Mode intensity distribution
BrightLine Mode – Variable beam profile for multi-kilowatt fiber laser

With BrightLine Mode, materials such as copper, aluminum and stainless steel can be welded virtually spatter-free. The patented 2-in-1 laser light cable (LLK) with single-mode core and multi-mode ring is robustly spliced to the laser. TruControl enables dynamic adjustment of the power distribution in the ring and core of the LLK for optimal results in welding applications.

VariMode of the TruFiber P
VariMode beam optimization

The VariMode function allows you to adapt the beam characteristics of your fiber laser (from 3 kW with 100 μm fiber) to your application. Mainly variable are the beam parameter product (BPP), as well as beam profile and the irradiance on the workpiece. Having such a dynamically controllable beam profile brings significant benefits, allowing "on the fly" changes to processing steps to increase production speed, reduce costs and improve process quality for a range of cutting and welding applications.

Intelligent down to the workpiece

Intelligent optics can be synchronized with your laser via a dedicated interface. This will allow you to use the PFO scanner optics optimally for your purposes. You can easily program the processing optics via the laser control system. Wobble geometries can be superimposed directly on the path geometry, for example. Additional controls are not necessary.

Interface variety – for simple integration

Interfaces are key for the integration of a TruFiber laser into your machine or production line. The solid-state lasers from TRUMPF offer interfaces to all common fieldbus systems. Also available: real-time interface, parallel digital I/O, interface for process sensor systems, OPC UA software interface, analog input board, interface for intelligent TRUMPF optics (CFO, PFO).

Remote Services

In the event of an error, TRUMPF service experts will remotely access your laser via a secure remote connection. In many cases the fault can be remedied directly in this way, or the configuration of the laser can be modified in a way that permits you to continue manufacturing until the spare part arrives.

Extended ambient conditions

TRUMPF's TruFiber P can be reliably used in a wide range of ambient conditions because of the laser's environmental protection (protection class IP54 ) with integrated cabinet air conditioning, in conjunction with a wide specification range for the coolant temperature.

Image processing

TRUMPF VisionLine image processing detects features on the components and ensures that welding is always in the correct location.
