Seam locking has a mild pre-load and is nearly air- and watertight. Bending takes place in three bending stages of 30°, 75° and 90°. The surface structure is undamaged and the machine automatically adapts to different sheet thicknesses.
Process fastening: Seam lockers and power fasteners
When you join two workpieces, mechanical fastening processes are often used. Our seam lockers and power fasteners are two fundamentally different tools.
Process seam lockers
TRUMPF seam lockers can lock Pittsburgh seams in a self-powered, nearly silent roll / glide process. Preparation of the seams is done using a stationary machine. It forms the edges of the sheet metal part. Then a vertical seam part is placed onto the Pittsburgh seam. This allows two or more workpieces to be joined together.

Process power fasteners
In the so-called "clinching" process, the sheets of metal are first placed onto one another. Then the tool cuts a strip into both parts in a combined punching and forming process.
The top sheet is joined with the lower one with a form-fitting seam, and the sheets hook into one another. This produces a permanent connection with no need for additional materials or heat.
The joining process requires no preparation or refinishing of the material. Costs for fasteners such as screws and rivets are eliminated. The emission-free process is cost-effective and produces permanent, tight connections with an attractive appearance.
Fastening is a competitive alternative to spot welding, rivets and hydraulic processes.
