Mate Precision Technologies will continue operating independently under its own brand, as TRUMPF expands its punching, bending and sheet metal fabrication tooling portfolio, including support for machines from major manufacturers.
TRUMPF Enters Strategic Partnership with Mate Precision Technologies, Expanding Tooling Portfolio for Sheet Metal Fabricators Worldwide
ANOKA, Minn., July 15, 2026 – TRUMPF, a leading high-tech company offering machine tools for sheet metal fabrication, laser technology, and solutions for the semiconductor industry, today announced it has signed an agreement to acquire Mate Precision Technologies, a global leader in metal cutting and forming products and solutions. Mate will continue to operate independently in the market under its existing brand, with its management and international teams remaining in place.
The partnership with Mate significantly expands TRUMPF's punching and bending tool portfolio to support customers using a broad range of machines, including those from other manufacturers. Until now, TRUMPF has offered bending and punching tools compatible exclusively with its own machines to customers. The partnership also strengthens TRUMPF’s market position in the United States, Canada and Mexico. At the same time, TRUMPF’s extensive global footprint opens new opportunities for Mate.
Together, the companies will serve customers across a wide range of industries, delivering a more complete sheet metal processing toolkit from a single source. The move also advances TRUMPF’s customer-focused strategy of producing equipment in the regions where customers need it. This localization enhances supply-chain strength, supports greater regional production and delivery, and complements Mate’s U.S. production footprint, serving customers throughout North America.
“Mate’s strengths and leadership are a natural complement and valuable addition to the TRUMPF team,” said TRUMPF Inc. President & CEO Lutz Labisch. “Mate manufactures tooling for nearly every major machine brand worldwide and shares our dedication to the success of machine tool customers. Mate’s tooling expertise, U.S. manufacturing footprint, and trusted customer relationships will help us to expand our support for sheet metal fabricators with an even greater range of solutions.”
For TRUMPF, the acquisition builds on more than five decades of manufacturing in the United States and deepens its commitment to keeping production close to its customers. Mate’s Minnesota operations complement TRUMPF’s local production facilities in Farmington, Connecticut, where the company has been manufacturing products for more than fifty years.
“Two family-owned companies with a long history of strong values and a shared commitment to quality are coming together. Mate’s customers will keep the brand, products and people they trust — but will now have a strong global partner behind them,” said TRUMPF Global Managing Director Till Küppers, who is responsible for TRUMPF’s global machine tooling production and supply chain network.
For sheet metal fabricators, the acquisition is expected to provide greater access to tooling expertise, application support, and solutions for a wide range of production environments. Customers will benefit from the added reach and resources of a global manufacturing technology company while maintaining continuity in how they are supported.
“For more than 60 years, Mate has been built on respect for our people and support for our customers – values equally supported by TRUMPF,” said former Mate Chairman Dean Sundquist. “Joining TRUMPF secures that legacy and opens the door to substantial growth through TRUMPF’s global customer base and sales network, while preserving the brand, team and independence in the market that our customers know and trust.”
Current Mate Precision Technologies President Joe Schneider, a 32-year veteran of the company, will continue to lead the business as president & CEO.
“The Mate story continues, we’re just beginning a new chapter. To the team that built this company: the work we do and the culture we've created are exactly what TRUMPF values and that remains the same," said Mate Precision Technologies President & CEO Joe Schneider. "With TRUMPF behind us, we will be able to grow faster and support our customers in more places than we could alone.”
Products, services, contracts and points of contact are expected to remain the same for Mate’s customers, employees, suppliers and partners. Mate’s tooling will continue to support a broad range of machine brands, while the combined tooling business creates new opportunities to serve sheet metal fabricators through TRUMPF’s broader international reach and existing tooling operations.
