Plasma is a gas in an electrically conductive ionized state. In nature, plasmas are known as polar lights, for example. On a technical level, plasmas are created using suitable power supplies or generators. They are widely distributed as fluorescent tubes in lighting technology. In industrial manufacturing, plasma is predominately used in surface technology. Thanks to plasma technology, surfaces can be coated, refined or generally constructed in many different ways. Plasma surface technology was first used in microelectronics production, but is now employed in a wide range of industrial manufacturing. Independent of the selected plasma procedure or the area of application, a specialized power supply is needed for successful gas discharge.
