Precise microprocessing

– flexibly tailored to the material and application

The TruMicro Series 2000 accurately processes copper, ceramics, glass, or films – even if the materials are temperature-sensitive or extremely thin. To achieve this, it offers two wavelengths: Green laser light, for example, is absorbed particularly well by copper and can be focused more precisely – for efficient processing with low heat input and precise structures. The infrared wavelength is particularly well-suited to ceramics and glass. Pulse energy, pulse duration, and pulse frequency can be flexibly adjusted to suit the specific application – allowing you to tailor the laser precisely to different processing tasks.

What makes the TruMicro Series 2000 special

– Your special features at a glance
Precision down to the last detail – thanks to excellent beam quality
Precision down to the last detail – thanks to excellent beam quality

The excellent beam quality of the TruMicro Series 2000 enables exceptionally small focal diameters for the finest structures and components. At the same time, the high pointing stability keeps the laser beam in a reproducible position, ensuring consistently precise results. This results in clean bends with minimal residue and burrs – ideal for demanding applications, such as those in medical technology.

Flexible for any task – with precisely controllable pulse parameters
Flexible for any task – with precisely controllable pulse parameters

You can flexibly adjust the pulse energy, pulse duration, and repetition rate to suit the material and application. Each individual pulse is energetically stabilised, which helps to ensure reproducible results. With short pulse durations in the femtosecond range, you can keep heat input low; with longer pulses in the picosecond range, you can, for example, precisely process the interior of transparent materials. The repetition rate can also be adjusted during the process – for example, to match the feed rate of the machining optics.

Versatile material effects – thanks to flexible operating modes

Depending on the application, you can determine how the laser emits its pulses – from individual ultrashort pulses to high repetition rates in quasi-continuous-wave (QCW) mode. In burst mode, you combine multiple ultrashort pulses into a compact pulse train and precisely control their timing and energy distribution. For example, this allows you to melt surfaces in a controlled manner or remove material more efficiently. This opens up additional possibilities – particularly when it comes to metals – for tailoring the machining process specifically to the respective application.

Gentle material processing – thanks to ultrashort pulses
Gentle material processing – thanks to ultrashort pulses

The TruMicro Series 2000 uses ultrashort pulses that deliver their energy into the material in an extremely short amount of time. This results in virtually no heat-affected zone – enabling cold machining without deformation, burn marks, or time-consuming rework. At the same time, each individual pulse selectively removes material without allowing energy to accumulate in the component. This allows you to control material removal precisely and achieve consistently reproducible results. This method makes it possible to reliably process even highly reflective materials – such as copper – or transparent materials.

Clean along every contour – with an adjusted pulse repetition frequency

With Advanced Pulse on Demand, the TruMicro Series 2000 triggers each laser pulse exactly when it is needed. This feature keeps the pulse spacing constant even when the feed rate changes – for example, in curves where the laser beam is guided more slowly. This prevents the pulses from overlapping and allows them to be precisely placed along the desired contour with a spatial resolution down to the sub-micrometer range. This ensures consistent, reproducible results even for short, complex contours with frequent changes in speed and direction – such as in the case of extremely fine cutouts like display notches.

Further advantages

  • Easy integration – without complex beam guidance

The optional hollow-core fibre allows you to integrate the lasers easily into any modular system – either in a vertical or horizontal orientation. You do not need granite blocks for stabilisation or mirrors for beam guidance. Sensors in the hollow-core fiber detect deviations and can stop the laser. This increases the security of your system.
  • Available at short notice – worldwide

High production capacity ensures that the TruMicro Series 2000 is available worldwide at short notice. This allows you to flexibly plan the expansion of existing machines or the installation of new machines. If needed, the global TRUMPF service team is available to assist you around the clock.

The TruMicro Series 2000 in use

– What to expect

Whether drilling, ablation, texturing, or cutting: The TruMicro Series 2000 lets you handle a wide variety of microprocessing operations. This opens up a wide range of applications – from products for the electronics and consumer goods industries, through medical technology and the automotive industry, to semiconductor manufacturing.

Machining delicate plastics

Machining delicate plastics

In the case of plastics such as separator films for batteries, excessive heat exposure can cause burn marks or cause the material to carbonise.

With Advanced Pulse on Demand, the TruMicro Series 2000 lasers continuously adjust the pulse frequency to the processing speed, thereby minimising heat input. This allows you to take full advantage of the benefits of cold machining with ultrashort pulses, even with tight contours and varying process speeds.

Cutting glass cleanly

Cutting glass cleanly

When cutting glass – for example, for folding displays – you need smooth cut edges with low surface roughness, which often requires time-consuming rework afterwards.

With the TruMicro Series 2000 lasers and our TOP Cleave optics, you can modify the cut edge in a single pass at speeds of up to several metres per second. This results in a surface roughness of < 1 µm, so no rework is necessary.

Cutting ultra-thin films

Cutting ultra-thin films

Cutting ultra-thin battery films quickly and cleanly is a challenging task. Burrs can form along the cut edges, and when using copper, reflections can also cause thermal damage.

The lasers in the TruMicro Series 2000 minimise heat input using ultrashort, high-energy pulses. This helps to cleanly process even the thinnest materials and avoid burning or tearing. This extends the service life of the products and reduces your material costs.

Creating high-contrast, corrosion-resistant markings

Creating high-contrast, corrosion-resistant markings

Even the finest markings on metal components should be precise, burr-free, and high-contrast. In addition, jet-black markings must remain clearly legible from every angle – without requiring a complex passivation process to maintain the material's corrosion resistance.

The ultrashort laser pulses create a non-tactile surface structure on the nanometer scale, which ensures high contrast of the marking when viewed from different angles. At the same time, the low heat input keeps the thermal stress on the material to a minimum, ensuring that the corrosion resistance of material such as stainless steel is maintained.
