Faster panel bending of thin sheet metal

– without marks on visible surfaces

Thin sheet metal parts up to 4 mm thick with multiple bends, deep nests, or delicate visible surfaces pose special challenges for manufacturing. This is exactly where the TruBend Center comes into its own. During panel bending, the component remains flat on the workbench while the bending beam swings up or down to shape the sheet metal. Between bends, the machine automatically rotates and positions the part. This allows even complex parts with multiple bends to be produced fully automatically in a single pass. This reduces the need to handle parts and protects delicate surfaces. At the same time, you can produce parts up to three times faster than with die bending.

What makes the TruBend Center Series 7000 special

– your special features at a glance
Precisely bend a wider variety of geometries – including nested parts, radii, and negative bends
Precisely bend a wider variety of geometries – including nested parts, radii, and negative bends

With its versatile tools, the TruBend Center Series 7000 produces complex thin sheet metal parts with multiple edges, tall nests, large radii, and delicate surfaces. Even multiple negative bends can be implemented efficiently. With nest heights of up to 350 mm and sheet thicknesses of up to 4 mm, the machine can handle a wide range of parts. This allows you to manufacture different customer orders on a single machine and expand your product range to include new components.

Less manual handling – because the machine positions the sheet metal automatically
Less manual handling – because the machine positions the sheet metal automatically

During panel bending, the operator does not need to turn any component manually. The machine handles this and can produce parts up to three times faster than a die-bending machine. Positive and negative bends, radii, and folds are created in a single pass – which is especially helpful for large parts or those with many edges.

Bending visible surfaces without leaving marks – even with stainless steel and coated sheet metal
Bending visible surfaces without leaving marks – even with stainless steel and coated sheet metal

In panel bending, blank holder tools secure the sheet metal horizontally in the machine. The tool used shapes it in an upward or downward swivel movement, whilst always guiding it at the same point – with just a single point of contact on the outer edge. This creates radii and edges without leaving any marks – for example, on stainless steel, coated sheet metal, and visible housing surfaces.

Quick access to the bending program – while the machine continues production
Quick access to the bending program – while the machine continues production

TecZone Bend generates a suggested bending program from 2D or 3D data in seconds, whether in the office or directly at the machine. You can adjust this at any time, for example, if you want to use different tools, manipulators, or grip points. Real-time collision checking immediately shows how changes affect the bending process, without having to recalculate. This shortens the run-in period and makes it easier to automate production, especially for small lot sizes.

Less setup, faster bending – thanks to the tool set supplied as standard

Each machine comes with a complete set of tools, including blank holders and bending tools. This means that the TruBend Center Series 7000 can produce a wide range of parts right from the outset. Where required, swivelling blank holders and additional bending tools expand the range of applications, for example for narrow profiles, internal edges, tabs and offset bends.

Automation step by step – towards the Smart Factory
Automation step by step – towards the Smart Factory

The TruBend Center can be flexibly expanded to suit production requirements, ranging from manual loading to automatic loading and unloading, right through to storage connection. In this way, production is gradually evolving toward the Smart Factory model through various levels of automation.

Reliable from the very first bend – even with varying sheet thicknesses
Reliable from the very first bend – even with varying sheet thicknesses

ACB Laser performs a non-contact measurement of the bending angle directly on the component and automatically corrects deviations. If the actual and target angles do not match, the machine automatically adjusts the bending process. This ensures that parts remain precise even when sheet thicknesses vary, achieving an angular accuracy of ±0.5°. This reduces rejects and rework and ensures that even the first part fits.

Everything you need to get through your day

– because the right equipment makes all the difference

You decide which features your manufacturing process needs. TRUMPF provides the right equipment. Standard and optional features support programming, operation, bending tools, part handling, part quality, and the drive system. They speed up processes, reduce errors, and keep the machine running smoothly.

Create bending programs from 2D or 3D data at your desk or at a separate workstation while the machine continues production. This ensures that no valuable production time is lost when programming the next parts.

Allows new orders to be programmed directly on the machine without the operator needing to use a separate CAD workstation. This makes it possible to fulfil even last-minute orders quickly.

Intuitively guides the operator through the programming and bending process via the touchscreen monitor, supported by 3D graphics of the component and the machine. This also helps new employees get up to speed quickly – which shortens the onboarding process.

Allows drawings, documents, or software applications to be displayed simultaneously on an additional monitor. This makes programming and operation directly on the machine easier.

Allows for additional part geometries, such as narrow profiles or tight internal bends, without having to change the standard blank holders. To do this, additional blank holder tools automatically move from their parking position into the bending area as needed and secure the sheet metal.

Expands panel bending capabilities with additional bending tools in shorter lengths. This allows interrupted folds or tabs to be bent precisely along a specific section.

Automatically positions and rotates the sheet metal for multi-sided bends. The TruBend Center performs all bends fully automatically after the workpiece is loaded, without requiring any operator intervention.

Expands automatic part handling to include additional movement options. When used in combination with the rotary part manipulator, this allows for the flexible production of very narrow profiles, large-radius bends, and parts with central cutouts.

Supports the component all the way through processing and makes it easier to move and position. The brush pad is gentle on delicate surfaces and protects them from scratches and damage.

Makes it easier to move and position the component, especially when dealing with larger or heavier metal sheets. The ball roller support holds the component in place throughout processing without damaging its surface.

Precisely positions the component for the first bend and, if necessary, for subsequent bending steps as well. The integrated stop sensors detect whether the component is properly positioned, thereby helping to ensure dimensionally accurate bending results. The additional traverse path of the gauge fingers also allows for stop-by-stop operation.

Allows the operator to measure the bending angle using a camera when setting up new components, without having to remove the part from the machine. This makes it possible to immediately identify deviations and correct them manually. This ensures more precise angles right from the first part and reduces rework and rejects.

Measures the bending angle non-contact, directly on the component, and automatically corrects material deviations. This ensures that the angle fits perfectly right from the first part – even with variations in the material batch or sheet thickness.

Moves the bending tools via a robust, patented angle drive with a profiled rail guide. This allows the machine to apply even high forces precisely to the component and to machine mild steel up to 4 mm thick. At the same time, the compact design takes up less space than comparable solutions on the market.

Crowning counteracts the horizontal forces acting during the bending process by means of the machine applying targeted pre-tension to the blank holder tools. Long bends therefore remain consistently precise.

Delivers drive power only when it is actually needed. This reduces energy consumption and noise levels during continuous operation.

The TruBend Center in action

– when complex edges are created automatically

Whether it's radii, nests, visible parts, or edge changes: These application examples show where the TruBend Center really comes into its own when it comes to panel bending.

Bending cover flaps without special tool

Bending cover flaps without special tool

For hinged cover flaps or those with tight radii, the goal is to achieve clean curves without having to purchase additional special tools.

The TruBend Center creates radii by stepping with standard tools. During this process, the manipulators guide the sheet metal in a controlled manner while the bending tools create individual bends at short intervals. This creates smooth curves without visible step transitions or the need for additional special tools.

Manufacturing drawers with visible surfaces

Manufacturing drawers with visible surfaces

Drawers made of thin sheet metal are commonly used in the furniture industry and feature many bends and visible surfaces. Manually rotating and turning parts takes time, puts a strain on operators, and increases the risk of scratches or marks on the component.

In panel bending, the sheet metal remains horizontal in the machine. The part manipulator automatically rotates and positions the component. This allows drawers to be produced quickly, precisely, and with minimal marks – and with significantly less manual handling.

Bending containers with large radii

Bending containers with large radii

For containers with large or varying radii, the curves must be uniform, and the shape and fit of the component must be maintained. At the same time, visible steps should be avoided without having to use special tools.

The TruBend Center also creates radii by stepping with standard tools. In this process, the manipulators guide and position the sheet metal so that the individual bends can be made at precise intervals. This creates smooth curves without visible steps and without the need for a special tool.

Automated manufacturing of server racks with multiple bends

Automated manufacturing of server racks with multiple bends

Server racks consist of housings, doors, lids, and panels with multiple folded edges, louvres, and openings. As mass-produced items, they must be manufactured cost-effectively, without too many bends requiring extra handling.

The TruBend Center automatically loads blank holders and offers automation options, including cell integration. The part manipulator rotates the component whilst bends are formed at the top and bottom. This eliminates the need for manual turning, and the system operates with high productivity.

Bending visible surfaces to minimise indentations on leaflet holders

Bending visible surfaces to minimise indentations on leaflet holders

A leaflet holder places high demands on design and finish. Large radii must look neat; the thin sheet metal must not show any scratches or edge marks, and the radius should be formed without the use of a special radius tool.

The TruBend Center also creates radii by stepping with standard tools. In this process, the manipulators guide and position the sheet metal so that the individual bends can be made at precise intervals. This creates smooth curves without visible steps and without the need for a special tool.

Get more out of your production

– from the individual machine to networked production

Efficient production doesn't end at the bending machine. With automation and software solutions, you can streamline processes wherever it makes sense for your production: directly at the machine, through the interaction of multiple machines, or across the entire production process. This makes it possible to reduce manual steps, better coordinate processes, and organise machine, storage systems, and material flow in a seamless manner.

How does it work?
The LoadStation allows for manual feeding while the bending process is in progress. The shuttle handles the part change by transporting the finished part to the unloading area and the prepared sheet into the machine.
When is it a good option?
If you'd like to continue supplying the sheets yourself but want to shorten the time between two bending operations.
What's in it for you?
They reduce downtime and require fewer direct interventions on the machine. The material flow remains more consistent.
How does it work?
The SheetMaster Bend loads and unloads the bending machine automatically. Vacuum grippers pick up the raw sheets one at a time from the material cart and feed them into the machine. After bending, it unloads the finished part and feeds the next sheet at the same time.
When is it a good option?
If you wish to avoid manually loading individual sheets altogether and automate your material flow throughout the entire process.
What's in it for you?
They reduce manual steps and positioning errors and make your operators' work easier. At the same time, non-productive time is reduced, leaving more time for other tasks.
How does it work?
The turning station automatically positions the workpieces correctly for the next processing step. To do this, it picks up, rotates and passes on the part all by itself.
When is it a good option?
If workpieces need to be turned over between laser cutting and panel bending, and you want to automate this step. The turning station can be integrated into the material flow using a STOPA storage system or via direct networking.
What's in it for you?
You can automatically produce multi-sided bends without having to turn the workpiece manually. This reduces the effort required for parts handling and reduces your operators' workload. In the case of pre-painted or foil-coated parts, the reduced handling also helps protect sensitive surfaces.
