ViBO

ViBO products can be easily SMD mounted to the board or driver IC by using preformed contacts. This also enables custom addressability of illumination zones.

ViBO: VCSEL with integrated Backside Optics

ViBO is a VCSEL array technology based on TRUMPF high-performance VCSELs with unique, patented lens forms directly etched into the GaAs-substrate. This VCSEL array technology with monolithically integrated micro-optical elements gives 3D sensing solution providers unprecedented benefits in creating tailored illumination profiles needed in advanced 3D sensing applications. It supports a new generation illumination devices that are for instance inherently eye-safe as the diffusor optics are monolithically incorporated into the laser array. Furthermore, the devices can be directly SMD mounted onto a board or driver IC without additional wire bonding. This significantly reduces the form factor over present hybrid VCSEL package solutions and supports for instance easier integration under smartphone displays.

Easy integration

The ViBO technology enables small sized, compact components due to its small footprint and significantly reduced height compared to packaged solutions. Therefore, ViBO offers the customer more freedom in designing smaller and advanced sensing solutions.

Inherently eye-safe

The diffusor optics are monolithically incorporated into the GaAs-substrate by a patented lens form - therefore the optics are an irremovable part of the chip. This supports an inherently eye-safe system during the product lifetime. No more worries about safety hazards by delaminating or malfunctioning optics.

Cost-efficient

Customers benefit from a double-digit cost reduction compared to devices using standard top-emitting with external optics like diffusors.

Freedom in design

Customers get the design freedom in creating individual illumination profiles and have the flexibility to address multiple segments on the chip. Next to the monolithically integrated optics, the small form factor makes the design of the entire sensing system easier.

3D Sensing

ViBO technology is the ideal technology for use in 3D sensing solutions due to the flexibility in creating individual illumination profiles and the possibility to address different illumination zones on the chip. The ViBO technology supports 3D sensing applications like identification of objects or people, facial recognition, license plate recognition, security and entrance control, mobile payment, autonomous drive, driver monitoring, gesture recognition or machine vision.

LiDAR

The ViBO technology with its integrated optics create illumination profiles to image objects close by as well as at long distances needed for LIDAR. Due to its small form factor the VCSEL components can be integrated easily in the system design.
