TRUMPF is building a new education center

A modern, three-story education center with its own Smart Factory is being built at the headquarters of the high-tech company TRUMPF // 120 new training positions in the next three years // Mr. Maassen, HR Managing Director: "A clear commitment to Baden-Württemberg as a location for education and to our social responsibility."

Ditzingen, December 8, 2021 – The high-tech company TRUMPF is investing in education and training and building a new education center at its headquarters in Ditzingen. The three-story building is being built on the site of the old education center and will provide space for the increasing number of apprentices and dual studies students. "Good training opportunities are crucial to counteracting the shortage of skilled workers. The new education center will be one of the most modern teaching and learning environments in the region. Once again, we are committing ourselves to our social responsibility as a company and to Baden-Württemberg as a location for industry and education," says Oliver Maassen, Managing Director of Human Resources at TRUMPF. The new education and training center will house a large event space for up to 400 people and for digitally networked production. It will also be equipped with seminar rooms, workshops and creative and collaboration areas. TRUMPF is investing a total of around 14.5 million euros. The new training center is scheduled to begin operations in the spring of 2023.

Training numbers to grow from 180 to over 300

With the new education center, TRUMPF is further adapting to the requirements of Generation Z, for whom a modern working environment is crucial when choosing an employer. "A good work-life balance, creative work, a sustainable corporate philosophy and good digital equipment are expected of companies today. TRUMPF has adapted to this cultural change from the very beginning and has consciously followed the path. The new education center specifically meets the requirements of young junior staff and underpins our claim to be an outstanding employer," says Marco Klein, Head of Corporate HR Learning and Growth at TRUMPF. In total, TRUMPF trains in 17 professions and is increasingly focusing on training and study courses in the digital and IT fields, for example in cyber security. "In the new education center, apprentices and dual studies students will learn how to work with key technologies in their own small smart factory. They can work there with digitally networked machines, lasers and 3D printers starting in the first year of their apprenticeship," says Klein. This year, around 70 apprentices and dual studies students have started at TRUMPF in Ditzingen; as early as next year, the number is expected to reach 116. The goal is to increase the number of apprentices from 180 to over 300 in the next three years.

Sustainable and representative industrial architecture

The new TRUMPF Education Center was designed by the Berlin-based architectural firm Barkow Leibinger. The building will meet the highest standards of representative, functional and sustainable architecture. For example, energy will be supplied to a large extent by a photovoltaic system and by using environmental heat. In addition, the planners are relying on renewable raw materials through its ecological timber construction. Glass facades provide plenty of daylight and a generous view of the outdoors. The heart of the hexagonal building will be a large event area with an open staircase.

Junior talents participated in the planning

TRUMPF apprentices and dual studies students helped plan the new education center. "It was something very special for us to be able to contribute our own ideas of a modern education center. Of course, I'm even more pleased that our concept is being implemented now," says Philip Schinzel, a former mechanical engineering student. Together with four fellow students, he has developed a concept for meeting rooms that is intended to facilitate collaboration and creativity in everyday work.
